LAHORE, Pakistan — Punjab’s Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, has strongly criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for what she described as a complete failure to respond to devastating floods in the province, leaving people “helpless” and “without government support.”
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Bokhari said that while Punjab faced the worst flooding in its history, “timely and emergency measures” by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her team saved hundreds of thousands of lives.
She said Punjab had carried out the largest rescue operation in the country’s history and was using all available resources for the rehabilitation of victims. However, she admitted that the resettlement of displaced families remains a major challenge, requiring long-term planning and sustained efforts.
“Those pointing fingers at Punjab’s performance should first look at their own province,” Bokhari remarked, accusing the KP government of severe negligence. She alleged that hundreds of people in KP have lost their lives due to floods and rains, while provincial authorities failed to act effectively.
Bokhari stressed that under CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, the Punjab government is “standing firmly with the people,” ensuring relief, rehabilitation, and future preparedness against natural disasters.
