Sharif began his career on stage in 1974, quickly becoming a household name through his sharp wit and groundbreaking comedy plays. While he excelled in theatre, TV, and cinema, it was his comic stage dramas that earned him legendary fame. His unique style of humor not only captivated audiences in Pakistan but also won him international recognition.
For his remarkable contribution to the arts, he was awarded Pakistan’s prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Distinction). Affectionately known as the “Comedy King”, Sharif’s work continues to inspire a new generation of performers.
On 2 October 2021, Umer Sharif passed away in Germany at the age of 66, after battling heart disease. He was laid to rest in Karachi, within the premises of the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine, a city that had been both his birthplace and the heart of his career.
