Karachi (International Desk) The Sindh High Court has suspended Karachi University’s decision to cancel the law degree of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court.
During the hearing of Justice Jahangiri’s petition against the university’s order, Registrar of Karachi University, Professor Imran Siddiqui, appeared before the bench and informed the court that the institution had only recently received notice of the case and requested more time to submit a response.
Justice Iqbal Kalhoro, leading the proceedings, asked how long the university would need, stressing that if action was taken against the petitioner in the meantime, it could cause irreparable harm.
Barrister Salahuddin, representing Justice Jahangiri, requested the court to grant time for replies but suspend the university’s decision in the interim.
Justice Kalhoro questioned whether the affected party had been given notice before the degree was cancelled, noting that “a person’s lifetime of work and reputation is at stake. If an order is passed without hearing the other side, it cannot be considered a good judgment.” He further observed that action could have been driven by “personal interest” and that ex parte decisions lack fairness.
Following the arguments, the Sindh High Court suspended Karachi University’s order and adjourned the matter until 20 November.
It is noteworthy that Karachi University had cancelled Justice Jahangiri’s law degree on 26 September 2025, nearly three decades after it was awarded.
