LAHORE: On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a comprehensive survey to assess losses and ensure the rehabilitation of flood victims is being conducted across the province with full dedication and transparency.
According to a detailed briefing presented to the Chief Minister, 2,233 survey teams have reached flood-affected households across 27 districts of Punjab to collect data on human, agricultural, and livestock losses. Officials said that teams are also visiting remote and riverine areas by boat to ensure that no affected family is left behind.
Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia informed the Chief Minister that data from 127,000 flood victims has already been collected. The survey teams have also gathered details of crop losses from 88,865 farmers, identifying more than 342,000 acres of flood-affected land.
He added that the survey further documented damage to 37,044 houses and losses reported by 1,400 livestock owners, accounting for 5,836 dead animals across several districts.
The DG PDMA highlighted that personnel from the Pakistan Army, Urban Unit, and Revenue, Agriculture, and Livestock Departments are working together in the field, conducting door-to-door visits to ensure accurate data collection. The PDMA Punjab is monitoring the progress of the survey daily to maintain efficiency and transparency.
Officials noted that flood-affected citizens have expressed satisfaction and gratitude over the government’s swift response. Many residents were quoted as saying that it was “beyond expectations” how quickly survey teams had reached even the most remote homes.
Flood victims reportedly chanted slogans in praise of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, expressing confidence that their grievances would be addressed fairly. Survey teams assured residents that every eligible victim would receive due assistance under the Chief Minister’s instructions.
