KATHMANDU/BEIJING (International Desk) — More than a thousand climbers and support staff have been stranded on Mount Everest due to severe snowfall affecting both Nepal and China, according to international media reports.
Authorities confirmed that around 350 people trapped on the Chinese side of the mountain have been moved to safer locations. However, rescue operations remain challenging as helicopters cannot operate in the current weather conditions. Local residents are assisting rescue teams in reaching the affected areas.
Meanwhile, in Nepal, landslides and flash floods triggered by continuous heavy rain have killed at least 47 people and left 9 missing in Kathmandu and surrounding regions. Several bridges and key roads have been swept away by floodwaters.
In neighbouring India, the hill station of Darjeeling has also been hit by heavy rainfall, with landslides claiming the lives of at least 20 people, local authorities said.
