ISLAMABAD (International Desk) – Awami National Party (ANP) leader Aimal Wali Khan arrived at Pakistan’s Parliament House on Monday under the protection of party guards dressed in red uniforms, amid heightened political tensions and security concerns.
Speaking to reporters, Aimal Wali warned that if any harm came to him or his family, the federal interior minister would be held responsible.
Meanwhile, in Mardan, ANP’s Mayor Himayat Mayar appealed to party workers to gather for Aimal Wali’s protection, stating that if “the state cannot ensure security, party workers will protect their leader themselves.”
According to an ANP spokesperson, directives from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister to provide security were allegedly ignored by provincial police officials. The spokesperson claimed that “eight officers visited Wali Bagh for a brief photo opportunity and then left, leaving Aimal Wali without formal protection.”
However, a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson countered the allegations, asserting that 12 security personnel have been deployed for Aimal Wali’s protection.
The escalating dispute highlights growing political friction between the ANP leadership and provincial authorities, raising fresh concerns over the safety of opposition figures in Pakistan’s volatile political climate.
