Chiniot (Special Correspondent) — A major terrorist incident was averted today in Chenab Nagar’s central Gol Bazaar area, where gunmen attacked the Ahmadi place of worship, Bait-ul-Mehdi, during Friday prayers. The assault caused panic throughout the area but was swiftly contained by security forces.
According to eyewitnesses, three armed terrorists arrived on motorcycles and attempted to storm the main gate of the worship site during the Friday congregation. When security guards stopped them, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire, injuring four security personnel.
Security forces responded immediately and bravely, killing one of the attackers on the spot. The other two managed to escape while firing back. Police and Rangers quickly cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search operation. The body of the slain attacker has been taken into custody for identification.
Initial reports suggest that the terrorists were carrying automatic weapons and hand grenades. Authorities believe the prompt and courageous action of the guards and police prevented a large-scale tragedy. The injured guards were rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Chiniot, where doctors report their condition as stable.
Senior police officials, the district administration, and the bomb disposal squad arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. The entire area has been placed under tight security, with all entry and exit points sealed, as law enforcement continues to search for the remaining attackers.
Sources indicate that investigators are linking this assault to the recent wave of terrorism seen in various parts of the country. Police officials suspect that the attackers may be associated with a banned extremist organization.
Residents of the area strongly condemned the attack, calling on the government to increase protection for places of worship and minority communities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Punjab has taken immediate notice of the incident, seeking a detailed report from the RPO Faisalabad and DPO Chiniot, and directed authorities to ensure the best medical care for the injured personnel.
The city remains tense and somber, with law enforcement continuing patrols and advising citizens to remain indoors until the situation is fully under control.
