LAHORE — The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, Department of Poultry Production, in collaboration with the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) and Roomi Poultry, observed World Egg Day at its Ravi Campus in Pattoki under the theme “The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition.”
The event featured a range of activities including a seminar, awareness walk, cooking competitions, an informational video on egg nutrition, and student performances — all aimed at highlighting the egg’s vital role in human nutrition and health. Similar events were also held across other UVAS campuses.
Mr. Abdul Basit, Central Chairman of PPA, presided over the seminar, while Dr. F.M. Sabir, CEO of Sabir Poultry, was the guest of honour. UVAS Vice Chancellor Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I), Prof. Dr. Saima, Dr. Jibran Hussain, and other academic and industry representatives also attended.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Basit emphasized that the egg is an affordable and complete source of protein essential for human growth and can play a key role in combating malnutrition in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Younus highlighted the need to boost egg production to strengthen the poultry sector and encouraged students to embrace entrepreneurship in the field.
Dr. Jibran Hussain urged the PPA to launch a school meal program in Pattoki, providing eggs and chicken to children to address malnutrition. The event concluded with a walk led by senior officials and students, followed by a prize distribution ceremony recognizing competition winners.
