Lahore: The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, and the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, along with their parliamentary delegations, visited the Provincial Assembly of Punjab on Tuesday, where they were accorded a warm reception.
They were received by Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, Deputy Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channer, and members of the Provincial Assembly, including Ms. Sarah Ahmad, Ms. Asma Ihtisham, and Rana Muhammad Arshad, along with senior parliamentary officials.
During the meeting held at the Assembly Chamber, the three Speakers discussed avenues to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation in trade, defense, education, and energy.
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan highlighted the enduring bonds of brotherhood among Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan, emphasizing that joint efforts toward regional integrity and stability would promote peace and prosperity. He underscored the importance of defense collaboration among the three nations.
The visiting dignitaries expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s hospitality. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s gratitude for Pakistan’s unwavering support during the 44-day Patriotic War, stressing the need to deepen trade and cultural ties. Turkish Speaker Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş reiterated that “Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan are three states but one nation,” emphasizing unity in the fight against terrorism and the significance of joint defense initiatives.
Later, commemorative shields were exchanged, followed by a visit to the Mausoleum of Allama Iqbal, where the dignitaries laid floral wreaths, offered Fateha, and paid tribute to the Poet of the East for his intellectual contributions to the Muslim world.
The visit by the parliamentary delegations from Türkiye and Azerbaijan marks a significant step in strengthening Pakistan’s diplomatic, cultural, and parliamentary ties with its brotherly Islamic nations.
