Karachi experienced the coldest morning of the ongoing winter season on Sunday, with temperatures dropping significantly to 13°C.
According to the Meteorological Department, Karachi’s minimum temperature fell by 3.4°C, reaching 13°C on Sunday morning. In contrast, Saturday’s minimum had been recorded at 16.4°C.A light mist hovered over the city at dawn, reducing visibility to three kilometres, though conditions gradually improved after sunrise as the day warmed.
The Early Warning Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast that Karachi will remain cold and dry over the next three days. Northeasterly winds from Balochistan are expected to prevail for most of the period. The city’s minimum temperature may drop further, reaching around 12°C.
The Met Office added that fog is likely to form in the early morning hours across the plains of Sindh. The coldest temperature in rural Sindh was recorded in Mohenjo Daro at 7.5°C.
Meanwhile, Lahore experienced dry and cold weather on Sunday, with similar conditions expected to continue on Monday.Meteorological officials said that most parts of the country would remain under the influence of continental air, with a shallow westerly wave affecting the extreme northern areas.
They forecast cold and dry weather for much of the country, with very cold conditions in hilly regions during the morning and night hours. Smog and patchy fog may form over the plains of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the same period.
Officials added that both day and night temperatures are likely to drop further in northern regions over the coming days, while foggy conditions across the plains of Punjab and K-P are expected to gradually intensify.On Sunday, the lowest temperature was recorded in Skardu at –11°C, while Lahore registered 6°C.
