Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Leghari, announced in the National Assembly that electricity tariffs for households consuming less than 200 units have been reduced by 60%, expanding the number of beneficiaries from around 6–7 million to nearly 18.3 million consumers.
According to Leghari, around 18.5 million consumers using 0–100 units are receiving a 90% subsidy, while those consuming 100–200 units are getting a 70% subsidy. Protected consumers have seen their tariffs drop by 58%.
He stated that in the past nine months, power prices have been lowered while reducing the burden of cross-subsidies on households. The cross-subsidy amount collected from the industrial sector has fallen from PKR 255 billion in June 2024 to PKR 94 billion.
The minister added that the all-inclusive per-unit electricity tariff has dropped from PKR 48.7 to PKR 38.4, with non-protected consumers also benefiting from a reduction of 11% to 17%, depending on their consumption slab.
