Islamabad /International Desk) Pakistan’s military on Wednesday rejected claims that Army Chief General Asim Munir had given an interview in which he allegedly spoke about the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) or an apology.
Military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told reporters in Islamabad that no interview was conducted with any journalist. He said the reference made in journalist Sohail Warraich’s column pertained to a public event in Brussels, where “hundreds of people took photographs,” but there was no mention of PTI or any apology.
Calling the report a bid for “personal publicity,” the DG ISPR described Warraich’s action as “inappropriate” and warned that anyone acting unlawfully would face legal consequences.
Asked if action would be taken against Geo and the Jang Group for publishing the report, he said media houses and institutions should act responsibly, expressing regret that even a senior journalist had acted irresponsibly.
“The Army is a responsible institution, and the media should also understand its responsibility,” he said.
