Islamabad (International Desk) – Pakistan observed Defence and Martyrs Day on Saturday with nationwide ceremonies, beginning at dawn with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. Soldiers raised slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” as mosques offered special prayers for peace, security, and flood-affected citizens.
The day commemorates September 6, 1965, when Indian forces launched an attack under the cover of darkness. Pakistan’s armed forces, backed by the nation, repelled the assault during a 17-day war, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in Lahore, Sialkot, and Kasur sectors.
ISPR highlighted that Chawinda battlefield became the graveyard of Indian tanks, while the Pakistan Air Force and Navy thwarted the enemy’s designs on air and sea fronts. Countless soldiers laid down their lives in defense of the homeland, leaving a legacy of courage and sacrifice.
