Peshawar,The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution calling for the arrest and extradition of a Pakistani citizen accused of committing blasphemy against the Companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on social media.
The session, chaired by Speaker Babar Swati, witnessed strong condemnation from lawmakers. The motion was initially raised by Adnan Wazir of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), who demanded strict action against the accused for allegedly using offensive language while in Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Madinah.
Lawmakers urged the federal government, Interior Ministry, and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to pursue the matter internationally and initiate an Interpol red notice to bring the accused back to Pakistan. They also recommended that Saudi authorities take legal action against the individual.
The resolution, later presented jointly by JUI-F lawmaker Muhammad Riaz, emphasized that the derogatory remarks deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims worldwide. It called for the accused to be punished in accordance with Pakistani law after extradition.
Speaker Babar Swati remarked that this was a matter of immense sensitivity tied to the emotions of Muslims across the world and endorsed the need for a joint resolution. The house approved the motion unanimously.
