Islamabad,A district and sessions court in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in connection with a liquor and arms recovery case.
Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti conducted the hearing at the district and sessions court. Gandapur failed to appear before the court, following which the magistrate ordered that he be arrested and presented on September 17.
The case was registered at Bara Kahu police station in Islamabad.
Following the issuance of warrants, Gandapur’s lawyer, Raja Zahoor-ul-Hasan, appeared before the court and requested the suspension of the arrest orders. The judge, however, refused, remarking that had even a junior counsel appeared earlier to request a date, the warrants could have been avoided.
During the exchange, the lawyer argued that the warrants had already been reported in the media, causing public embarrassment to his client. The magistrate responded, “What can I say to the media? Present the accused and I will cancel the warrants.”
The court subsequently dismissed the plea to suspend the arrest warrants.
