Islamabad,(International Desk) — Nineteen Pakistanis are missing after a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Oman, Pakistani authorities confirmed on Friday. One survivor has been rescued.
According to an initial report by Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the vessel, carrying 20 Pakistanis, was caught in a storm on September 7. A gas cylinder explosion on board triggered a fire, forcing passengers to jump into the sea.
Only one passenger, identified as Hamidullah Khan, was rescued by a passing ship and later taken into custody by Omani authorities. The Pakistani embassy in Muscat is coordinating his repatriation.
Preliminary findings suggest the boat departed from Gwadar, traveling through Iran towards Oman. The survivor has provided identities of 11 of his fellow passengers, while details of the remaining missing migrants are being sought from Omani officials.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said its mission is in close contact with Omani police and immigration authorities as the search continues.
