LAHORE, Pakistan — On the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a nationwide campaign has been launched to administer the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to girls aged 9 to 14 years, aiming to prevent cervical cancer in later life.
Dr. Laila Shafiq, Consultant Gynecologist and Additional Director of Emergency at Lahore General Hospital, said the HPV vaccine offers young girls “a safer future with lifetime protection.” She urged parents to ensure their daughters are vaccinated, calling the initiative a milestone in women’s health.
The campaign, which runs until September 27, provides the vaccine free of cost at government hospitals and vaccination centers across Punjab. Health officials said the program reflects the government’s commitment to reducing cancer risks and strengthening preventive healthcare for future generations.
