Peshawar, Pakistan — Pakistani security forces killed 31 militants in two intelligence-based operations in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out on September 13 and 14 in the districts of Lakki Marwat and Bannu. In Lakki Marwat, 14 militants were killed following an intense exchange of fire, while in Bannu, another 17 were neutralized.
The army’s statement described the fighters as part of an “India-backed extremist network” accused of carrying out attacks in the region in recent months.
Security forces said the operations targeted militant hideouts and inflicted “heavy losses” on the group. The military did not provide details about its own casualties, if any.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed a surge in militant activity over the past year, with several groups targeting both civilians and security personnel.
