Islamabad – The Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Hafiz ur Rehman, has appealed against a ruling by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that ordered his removal from office.
The appeal, filed under the 1972 Ordinance, challenges a judgment delivered by Justice Babar Sattar, who earlier issued a reserved verdict declaring Rehman’s appointment unlawful.
According to the petition, Hafiz ur Rehman was appointed as a PTA member (Administration) on 24 May 2023 and elevated to Chairman the following day. He argues that both appointments were made in line with existing laws and regulations.
The appeal requests the court to urgently hear the case in order to reaffirm the legality of his appointment.
The development adds to ongoing scrutiny over regulatory appointments in Pakistan, with the telecom sector closely watching the outcome.
