Yemen’s coastal region witnessed a major internet disruption after five undersea cables were severed, severely affecting connectivity across the region.
According to Pakistan’s IT Secretary, two of the damaged cables directly connected to Pakistan, resulting in a significant slowdown in internet speed nationwide.
In an official statement, the ministry clarified that the restoration process of the affected cables could take four to five weeks. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to reroute internet traffic through alternative channels to minimize the impact on users.
The incident highlights the growing vulnerability of regional digital infrastructure amid increasing reliance on undersea cables for global connectivity.
