QUETTA, Pakistan — At least six people were killed in two separate bomb explosions in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province on Thursday, officials said.
In the border town of Chaman, a blast near a taxi stand left five dead and one injured, according to District Police Officer Abdullah Cheema. Security forces cordoned off the site and rescue teams transported the victims to nearby hospitals.
Earlier in the day, a vehicle packed with explosives detonated on the national highway in Kech district, killing one person and wounding several others, security sources reported.
Authorities said investigations were under way to determine the nature of the blasts. The provincial Home Department appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement and avoid spreading rumors.
Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, has long been plagued by militant attacks and insurgent violence despite ongoing security operations.
