Lahore: Authorities in Punjab have intensified action under Section 144 against illegal wheat hoarding, recovering 334,000 metric tons of wheat this month.
According to Punjab Director General Food Amjad Hafeez, operations were carried out at 2,095 locations by the Food Directorate, District Administration, and Para Force. He informed Secretary Price Control Dr. Kiran Khurshid that wheat stocks in flour mills have risen by 165,000 metric tons, while grinding of 360,000 metric tons has helped stabilize flour supply.
The crackdown has also driven down wheat prices in the open market from Rs3,800 to Rs3,000 per 40 kg, the Price Control spokesperson confirmed. Secretary Khurshid directed that operations against illegal hoarders continue across the province.
