Karachi,Federal Minister Shaza Fatima has said Pakistan’s information technology sector is expanding rapidly, with freelancing, data usage, and digital services driving growth.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, Fatima said Pakistan is moving toward sustainable economic stability, citing increased foreign reserves, declining inflation, and lower policy rates. She credited the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) with addressing internal challenges and initiating digitization of key institutions, including the Federal Board of Revenue.
Highlighting Pakistan’s young population — with 60% under the age of 30 — she said the government plans to train one million students in artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. She also announced spectrum expansion to 1,000 MHz by year-end and a phased rollout of 5G technology starting in seven cities.
Fatima noted that new submarine internet cables have already landed in Pakistan, with three more under development, while negotiations with China on digital cooperation are underway. She added that by boosting connectivity and technological capacity, Pakistan aims to secure a stronger place in the global digital economy.
