Islamabad/London, (International Desk):
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received approval to resume passenger and cargo operations to the United Kingdom, clearing a major hurdle in restoring its European flight network.
According to the airline’s spokesperson, the UK Department for Transport has formally granted PIA a Third Country Operator (TCO) certificate, valid for five years. The approval allows the national carrier to operate direct flights to the UK with both passenger and cargo services.
PIA plans to launch direct flights to Manchester next month as the first phase of the revived operation, with services to Birmingham and London expected to follow.
The airline’s CEO expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government, including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Ministry, and Civil Aviation Authority, for their support. He also commended the PIA team for enduring multiple audits over the past five years to achieve this milestone.
