NEW YORK,
(International Desk):
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in warfare could make future conflicts significantly more dangerous.
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council conference on AI, Asif cautioned that AI-driven command-and-control systems pose a “grave threat” by accelerating military build-ups. He noted that Pakistan this year introduced its first-ever national AI policy.
The minister also referred to recent tensions with India, stating that heavy weaponry, including rapid-fire missiles and cruise systems, had been deployed between two nuclear-armed neighbors. He stressed that AI could limit space for diplomacy and increase the risk of escalation.
“As innovation advances, it must be harnessed for global peace,” Asif said, calling for the use of AI in accordance with the UN Charter.
