LAHORE: Ajoka Theatre’s latest workshop production, “Yeh Aurtain Kahan Gaeen” (Where Have the Women Gone?), captivated a full house at Alhamra Hall 2 in Lahore, sparking both laughter and reflection.
Developed in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council, the play marked the conclusion of a two-month training program for emerging theatre artists, aimed at nurturing socially conscious storytelling.
Performed by workshop participants, the satirical production posed a provocative question: what would happen if women suddenly vanished from society? The narrative unfolded with humor and sharp commentary, showing men left to manage everything—only to confront the irreplaceable void women leave behind.
The performance drew an enthusiastic response, from bursts of laughter to thoughtful silence, culminating in a standing ovation. Theatre enthusiasts, students, and educators praised the fresh script, energetic acting, and bold themes.
“This is what Ajoka is all about—giving space to new voices and addressing pressing social issues through theatre,” said Shahid Nadeem, Executive Director of Ajoka Theatre.
The production not only highlighted the creative growth of its young cast but also reinforced Ajoka’s reputation for using theatre as a platform to challenge norms and provoke dialogue.
