KARACHI (International News Desk) — Pakistan’s anti-corruption authorities have opened an inquiry into the Sindh Textbook Board after allegations surfaced of serious irregularities in the awarding of multi-billion-rupee contracts for school textbooks.
According to investigative sources, textbook printing contracts worth nearly 5 billion rupees for the 2025–26 academic year were allegedly handed to favored publishers, bypassing legal and transparent bidding processes.
Officials confirmed that financial records and contract documents are being reviewed to assess whether procurement rules were violated to benefit select companies. The probe is expected to determine the scale of losses to the public exchequer and identify those responsible.
The Sindh government and the provincial education department have yet to issue an official statement. Education experts caution that corruption in textbook supply chains could severely affect the delivery of learning materials to millions of students across the province, raising concerns about governance and accountability in Pakistan’s education sector.
