Dubai / Islamabad:
A dispute has emerged between the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards over the custody of the Asia Cup trophy, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally writing to the International Cricket Council (ICC), demanding the return of the trophy currently in Pakistan.
According to media reports, the BCCI argued that the Asia Cup trophy rightfully belongs to India and called for international pressure on Pakistan to ensure its handover. However, the ICC has responded by clarifying that the issue does not fall under its jurisdiction, stating that Asia Cup matters are governed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), not the ICC.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a firm stance, stating that the trophy can only be handed over in accordance with ACC protocols. PCB officials have reportedly said that the Indian team captain must personally collect the trophy from the Asian Cricket Council’s headquarters in Dubai, adding that the trophy will not be released to any third party.
The disagreement has drawn attention within international cricketing circles, highlighting ongoing administrative and diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring cricket boards. The matter is now expected to be addressed at the Asian Cricket Council level, as discussions continue behind the scenes.
