Dubai,— On the eve of the Asia Cup final between Pakistan and India, scheduled for Sunday in Dubai, the traditional pre-final “trophy photoshoot” featuring both captains has been called off amid heightened tensions between the two teams.
Tournament organizers confirmed on Saturday that no joint photoshoot was taking place. They added that a final decision on whether to hold the customary ceremony would be taken on Sunday, just hours before the match.
The development follows signs of strain between the sides. During the tournament, the Indian team avoided customary handshakes with Pakistani players on two occasions, and observers believe a repeat is likely at the final.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha is set to address a press conference tonight at 7 p.m. local time, while the team will conduct its final training session from 7 to 10 p.m. at the ICC Academy in Dubai.
