London— England all-rounder Chris Woakes has announced his retirement from international cricket, ending a 15-year career that saw him win both the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Woakes, 36, played 62 Tests, taking 192 wickets and scoring over 1,700 runs. He also appeared in 122 ODIs and 33 T20Is, establishing himself as one of England’s most reliable seam-bowling all-rounders.
The decision comes after Woakes missed the recent Ashes squad and struggled with injuries, including a shoulder dislocation during the Test series against India earlier this year.
In a statement, Woakes said he felt “immense pride” in representing England and thanked his teammates, family, and fans for their support. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) praised his “professionalism and key contributions” over the years.
While stepping away from the international stage, Woakes is expected to continue playing county cricket for Warwickshire and may take part in global franchise leagues.
