After long insisting that it will release its first trifold phone this year, Samsung has gotten one step closer by showing off a version of the hardware at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, being held this week in Korea. No-one’s allowed to touch it though (let alone fold it), and Samsung is staying coy about whether this is a final version of the hardware or not.

The trifold is on display in a glass case in both its folded and unfolded states. An animation shows off how the device folds between those forms, but the actual hardware is strictly static. As rumored, both sides seem to fold inwards together like a “G,” rather than the accordion-style folds of the Huawei Mate XT, now in its second generation.

Samsung hasn’t named the device, or even confirmed if this is a version of the phone that’s ready to release. “The recent showcase reflects ongoing R&D efforts, and we plan to bring this next generation device to users within this year,” an unnamed company spokesperson told SamMobile in a statement.

Samsung’s display division has shown off trifold concept devices in the past, including at MWC 2025, but this might be the first time we’ve seen the hardware that some consumers will be able to buy pretty soon.
