London: The United Kingdom has announced a new wave of tougher immigration measures, tightening the conditions for migrants seeking permanent residency.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, addressing the Labour Party Conference, confirmed that the government is introducing stricter criteria for settlement to ensure that only those who contribute positively to British society can qualify for long-term residence.
Mahmood emphasized that applicants will now be required to demonstrate their value and contribution to the community as part of the assessment process.
She added that the government is reviewing existing policies that allow foreign nationals to obtain residency automatically after a certain period of stay, stressing that the reforms aim to promote “responsible immigration” that benefits both the economy and society.
