KABUL (International Desk) – The Afghan government has taken a firm stance against reports suggesting that the United States is seeking control of Bagram Airbase, declaring that the facility will “under no circumstances” be handed over to Washington.
In an official statement, government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid urged the U.S. to honor the Doha Agreement, which he said guarantees Afghanistan’s sovereignty and national security.
> “The United States must respect the Doha Accord, which ensures that Afghan soil will not be used against any country and protects our national independence,” Mujahid stated.
The statement comes amid renewed U.S. interest in regional counterterrorism operations following security concerns linked to militant movements in the region.
Bagram Airbase, once the largest U.S. military facility in Afghanistan, was fully vacated by American forces in July 2021 during their withdrawal. Kabul’s latest declaration underscores the Taliban-led government’s resistance to any foreign military presence on Afghan territory.
