ISTANBUL — A Scottish woman has embraced Islam after being deeply moved by the popular Turkish historical drama Kuruluş Osman, according to Turkish media reports.
Julieta Lorena Martinez from Scotland said her journey toward Islam began during the COVID-19 pandemic when she started watching Diriliş: Ertuğrul and its sequel Kuruluş Osman, both based on the rise of the Ottoman Empire.
“The characters and their faith drew me closer to Turkish history and Islamic values,” Martinez said. “I began reading Islamic books, and when I read the Quran, I found peace that I had never experienced before.”
After two years of study and reflection, she officially converted to Islam, reciting the Shahada and expressing that the Quran had given her “true tranquility and purpose.”
Turkish production sources said Julieta’s story highlights how Turkish dramas have evolved beyond entertainment, influencing hearts worldwide by showcasing Islamic heritage and moral strength.
Her journey, they added, reflects a growing global interest in Islamic culture inspired by Turkish media productions.
