LAHORE (International Desk) — In a major step toward deepening economic cooperation between Hong Kong and Pakistan’s Punjab province, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) and the Industries, Commerce & Investment Department Punjab (ICID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 13 to enhance bilateral trade, investment, and industrial collaboration.
The agreement establishes a strategic framework to promote mutual benefits for the business communities of both regions, with a focus on facilitating investment opportunities, sharing market intelligence, and organizing joint trade promotion initiatives.
The MoU was signed at HKGCC’s headquarters by Agnes Chan, Chairman of HKGCC, and Mr. Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, Punjab’s Minister for Industries, Commerce & Investment.
“This partnership marks an important step in connecting Hong Kong’s international business community with the immense potential of Punjab,” said Agnes Chan. “Our mission is to open doors for our members, and this MoU provides a direct channel to explore opportunities, foster understanding, and drive growth between our two economies.”
Chaudhry Shafay Hussain highlighted Punjab’s growing attractiveness for foreign investors, noting that tax incentives, leased land in industrial zones, and low-cost labour have encouraged numerous international companies to establish operations in the province.
“Foreign investment is creating employment and transferring advanced technologies to Punjab,” he said. “This collaboration with HKGCC is a significant milestone in attracting investment, promoting exports, and building lasting people-to-people connections that will bring prosperity to both Hong Kong and Punjab.”
The MoU is expected to pave the way for enhanced trade missions, business exchanges, and industrial partnerships, reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector” in the global economy and showcasing Punjab’s potential as a rising hub for investment in South Asia.
