DHAKA (International Desk) — In a historic development, the Sampreeti Shikharthi Jote panel, backed by the Islamic Chhatra Shibir, has secured a sweeping victory in the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union elections — marking the group’s first major success in 44 years.
According to Bangladeshi media, the Shibir-supported panel won 22 key positions, including Vice President and General Secretary.
For the Vice President post, Shibir-backed candidate Ibrahim Roni secured 7,983 votes, defeating his nearest rival Sajjad Hussain from the Chhatra Dal, who received 4,374 votes.
Similarly, for the General Secretary position, Syed Bin Habib of Shibir won with 8,031 votes, while M.D. Shafaat Hussain of Chhatra Dal obtained 2,734 votes.
However, in the Assistant General Secretary race, Chhatra Dal–supported Ayyubur Rahman Taufiq won with 7,014 votes, defeating Sajjad Hussain Minha who polled 5,045 votes.
This marks the first victory for the Islamic Chhatra Shibir at Chittagong University since 1981, signaling a major shift in the campus’s political landscape.
