ISLAMABAD (Muhammad Saleem) — Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime have agreed to extend their ceasefire, which was initially set to expire today, as talks between the two sides continue in Doha, diplomatic sources confirmed.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, both sides are engaged in constructive dialogue during the 48-hour truce. The spokesperson stated that Pakistan has effectively repelled attacks from Taliban elements in exercise of its right to self-defense.
He further added that Taliban forces and their affiliated militant hideouts suffered heavy losses during Pakistan’s counteractions, emphasizing that the operations targeted terrorist elements, not civilian populations.
The temporary ceasefire, which began earlier this week, was due to expire at 6 PM today, but has now been extended until the conclusion of ongoing negotiations in Doha.
