BAHAWALPUR — In a remarkable display of social welfare and inclusion, 174 couples tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony held under the Punjab government’s “Dhee Rani Programme.”
According to officials, the event included 166 Muslim, 5 Christian, 3 Hindu, and 2 differently-abled couples — reflecting the government’s commitment to interfaith harmony and social support for underprivileged communities.
Each couple received PKR 200,000 in financial assistance as part of the initiative aimed at supporting low-income families in covering wedding expenses and starting their new lives.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Sohail Shaukat Butt served as the chief guest at the ceremony. The event was marked by joy and celebration, as newlyweds and their families expressed gratitude for the government’s support.
The Dhee Rani Programme is part of Punjab’s broader social protection strategy designed to empower women and promote social welfare, particularly among marginalized groups.
