LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring dignified, safe, and modern residential facilities for journalists during a high-level meeting held to review development plans for the Journalist Housing Society Lahore.
The meeting focused on accelerating ongoing projects and ensuring complete transparency in their execution. It was decided that the auction of the society’s commercial areas would be conducted through the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) under the supervision of the Punjab Journalists Housing Foundation (PJHF).
Azma Bokhari directed that all development projects be completed within the specified timeframe while maintaining the highest standards of quality. The architectural team from LDA will soon visit the site to finalize development proposals, while representatives from LDA, WASA, and PHA presented detailed briefings on the progress of infrastructure works in the Lahore Press Club Housing Scheme.
Highlighting the government’s proactive approach, the Information Minister announced the construction of a new bridge over the canal in front of the Journalist Colony to ease chronic traffic congestion. She also instructed WASA to activate the incomplete water linkage system and ensure uninterrupted water supply in the area.
“Journalists are the voice of the people and play a crucial role in strengthening democracy,” Azma Bokhari stated. “The Punjab Government is fully committed to improving their living conditions by providing safe and well-planned housing facilities.”
The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani, DG LDA Tahir Farooq, MD WASA Ghafran Ali, President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, Adnan Rasheed, and Asad Hussai
