LAHORE,— The Government of Punjab has imposed a province-wide ban on unplanned urban development and violations of master plans, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, officials announced on Saturday.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, attended by Director Generals of all Development Authorities, the Director General of PHATA, and the CEO of RUDA.
According to Secretary Mengal, all private housing societies will now require approval strictly in accordance with district master plans, following thorough scrutiny by relevant institutions. He emphasized that unauthorized housing developments contribute to the destruction of green zones and fuel unplanned urban sprawl.
A spokesperson for the Housing Department said that comprehensive planning is being implemented to regulate private housing projects across Punjab. “Strict enforcement of these measures will help protect green areas, curb smog, and reduce environmental pollution,” the spokesperson stated.
The official added that under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government’s top priority is to safeguard citizens’ lives and property while improving the province’s environmental conditions.
