DHAKA (28 October 2025): In a significant development in bilateral relations, Pakistan has offered Bangladesh the use of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to enhance regional trade connectivity with China and Central Asian countries.
The offer came during the ninth Pakistan–Bangladesh Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting held in Dhaka — the first such meeting in two decades. The session was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik and Bangladesh’s Finance Adviser.
According to the joint communiqué, the proposal would allow Bangladesh to conduct trade through Karachi Port, expanding its access to regional markets. Both sides also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between their national shipping corporations to facilitate maritime and logistics collaboration.
The renewed engagement marks a notable thaw in relations between Islamabad and Dhaka, with both countries seeking to bolster economic ties and explore new avenues for regional integration.
