Global e-commerce giant Amazon has announced plans to lay off 14,000 corporate employees, marking one of the company’s largest workforce reductions in recent years.
According to the BBC, Amazon confirmed the decision on Tuesday, stating that the move comes as part of its efforts to reshape its corporate structure in response to the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI).
Beth Galetti, Amazon’s Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, said in a note to employees that the decision aims to make the company leaner and more efficient, allowing resources to be redirected toward areas that are “most critical for the company’s current and future growth.”
She emphasized that AI represents the biggest technological transformation since the Internet, significantly accelerating innovation and productivity across industries.
Industry analysts suggest that Amazon’s restructuring reflects a broader trend among global tech giants adapting their business models to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving AI-driven economy.
