Lahore, October 31 (By our Staff Reporter Dr. Ansab Ali):
In a significant move against land encroachment in Punjab, the provincial cabinet has approved the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Movable Property Ordinance 2025. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aiming to safeguard citizens’ property rights and curb the influence of the encroachment mafia.
Under the new ordinance, landowners will have full legal protection over their properties, making illegal occupation or encroachment virtually impossible. A Dispute Resolution Committee will be established in every district to ensure swift justice, resolving encroachment cases within 90 days before they reach the courts.
Appeals against the committee’s decisions will be heard by a special tribunal, headed by a retired High Court judge, which will also be required to issue a verdict within 90 days.
Officials say the new legal framework marks a major step toward protecting citizens’ property rights and improving land governance across the province.
