Lahore, October 31 (By our Staff Reporter Muhammad Shahzad):
A Lahore District Court has extended the physical remand of six NCCIA officers for another three days in a major bribery case. The court ordered that the accused be produced again on November 3.
The six officers of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) were presented before the court after being arrested on allegations of receiving bribes. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requested a 14-day extension in their remand, arguing that further investigation was required.
However, the defense lawyers opposed the request, stating that the accused had already been in custody for three days and that no further remand was necessary. They claimed the FIA had not yet produced sufficient evidence to substantiate the bribery allegations.
Presenting its investigation report, the FIA informed the court that a total of Rs 42.548 million (approximately 4 crore 25 lakh 48 thousand rupees) had been recovered from the accused officers so far.
According to the report:
Ali Raza — Rs 7 million recovered
Zawar — Rs 9 million recovered
Yasir Gujjar — Rs 1.9 million recovered
Assistant Director Shoaib Riaz — Rs 3.648 million recovered
Additional Director Chaudhry Sarfraz — Rs 12.548 million recovered
The FIA has also launched a probe into assets beyond known means of the accused officers. The investigating officer informed the court that property records were being collected to verify ownership details and determine the sources of the illicit funds. The investigation will also focus on identifying the call centers allegedly involved in the bribery transactions.
