Islamabad, Pakistan — Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has accused India of attempting to launch a covert operation against Pakistan, claiming that the country’s intelligence agencies have foiled the alleged plot after the arrest of a Pakistani fisherman who had been recruited by Indian authorities.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry, Tarar said that a fisherman named Ijaz Mallah had been detained by Indian Coast Guards while fishing near the maritime border and was later persuaded by Indian intelligence agencies to work for them.
He alleged that Mallah was sent back to Pakistan with instructions to purchase uniforms of the Pakistani Navy, Army, and Rangers, as well as other sensitive items, to support what Tarar described as “an Indian plan of sabotage.” Pakistani security agencies reportedly began monitoring him and arrested him upon his return.
According to Tarar, authorities recovered several items from the suspect, including SIM cards, lighters, and other materials, and during interrogation, Mallah allegedly confessed to working under Indian pressure and financial incentives.
“India is unable to accept Pakistan’s success on diplomatic and defense fronts,” Tarar said. “After the failure of Operation Sindoor, India began a misinformation campaign, and its media continues to spread false narratives.”
The minister further alleged that recent Indian military exercises in Gujarat and Kutch were part of “nefarious activities” aimed at propaganda and destabilization against Pakistan.
Indian officials have not yet commented on the allegations.
