LAHORE: The Mas-Wrestling Championship was held at the Elite Training Center, Nishtar Park Sports Complex (NPSC) under the supervision of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department Punjab.
Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab, Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was also attended by Director Sports Rana Nadeem Anjum, Director Admin Abid Shaukat, and President Pakistan Mas-Wrestling Federation Furqan Ahmad, along with other senior officials.
A total of 240 athletes from 30 schools and 96 players from 13 colleges participated in the championship. DG Sports Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry keenly observed the competitions and lauded the skills, strength, and sportsmanship of the participating athletes. He also met the players, exchanged views with them, and posed for group photographs with the winners and participants.
Speaking to the media, Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry said that Punjab’s land is highly fertile for traditional sports, and the Sports Department is taking several effective measures to promote and develop indigenous games across the province.
He expressed confidence that many talented players will emerge from mas-wrestling competitions, adding that Punjab is the only province offering financial assistance to athletes demonstrating exceptional performance in sports.
The DG further informed that the Punjab Sports Department is providing monthly scholarships to top-performing athletes under the Sports Endowment Fund. “The best players are being awarded performance-based scholarships of Rs 70,000, Rs 50,000, and Rs 30,000 under the Platinum, Gold, and Silver categories, respectively,” he added.
