ISLAMABAD: High-level talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have concluded without any progress, according to senior Pakistani officials.
Sources confirmed that Pakistan’s National Security Adviser and the Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) have left the negotiation venue after discussions yielded no breakthrough. The Pakistani delegation is now expected to travel to Istanbul for further consultations.
The talks were aimed at addressing Islamabad’s growing security concerns over the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its increasing cross-border activities. However, diplomatic sources indicated that the Afghan Taliban delegation did not provide any concrete assurances regarding action against TTP militants operating from Afghan territory.
Officials described the atmosphere of the talks as “cordial but inconclusive,” noting that Pakistan remains firm on its demand that Afghan soil must not be used against it.
The failed round marks yet another setback in Islamabad’s ongoing efforts to secure guarantees from Kabul to curb militant activity along the Pak-Afghan border.
