ISLAMABAD, November 7, 2025: The Privatization Commission Board has recommended adding three major airports — Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi — to the federal government’s ongoing privatization program.
The decision was made during a board meeting chaired by Advisor to the Prime Minister on Privatization, Muhammad Ali, held in Islamabad. According to the official statement, the recommendation has been forwarded to the Cabinet Committee on Privatization (CCoP) for approval.
Under the proposed framework, the management of these airports will be handed over to the private sector on long-term concession agreements to enhance efficiency, improve passenger services, and attract foreign investment.
The statement further noted that the meeting also reviewed key developments regarding the privatization of House Building Finance Company Limited (HBFCL), the national airline (PIA), and the three international airports.
It added that the reference price and sale-purchase agreement for HBFCL have been finalized, and bidding will take place after formal approval and endorsement from the federal cabinet.
The move marks a significant step in Pakistan’s broader economic reform agenda aimed at restructuring state-owned enterprises and promoting private-sector participation in national infrastructure projects.
