Islamabad: Justice Musarrat Hilali of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has withdrawn from joining the newly formed Federal Constitutional Court, citing health-related concerns.
According to sources, Justice Hilali experienced a spike in blood pressure shortly before her scheduled appearance. Given her previous cardiac condition, medical staff advised immediate rest, making it impossible for her to take up responsibilities at the new court.
Sources said that as she approached Room No. 1, her blood pressure rose significantly, prompting an on-site medical check-up in the judges’ chambers. Following the doctor’s advice, Justice Hilali refrained from joining the court proceedings. As a result, the bench comprising Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar was de-listed for the day.
Justice Hilali had also suffered a heart-related ailment last year, and her health has remained delicate since then.
The Federal Constitutional Court’s headquarters are being set up at the Islamabad High Court, where newly appointed Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan will sit in Room No. 1. Meanwhile, IHC Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar will move to Room No. 2.
Sources added that administrative preparations for the court’s functioning and judges’ postings are in the final stages to ensure a smooth launch without disruptions to judicial processes.
