LAHORE — Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal paid a strong tribute to Pakistan’s Christian community for its historic and ongoing contributions to the country’s progress during a one-day interfaith prayer service held in Isa Nagri, Narowal.
The event, led by Senior Pastor Anwar Fazal, brought together political leaders, clergy, and community members for special prayers focusing on Pakistan’s unity, stability, and development. The gathering also included Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora, Pastor Nida Anwar, local PML-N leadership, and a large Christian community turnout.
Pastor Anwar Fazal condemned the recent terrorist attack outside the Islamabad District Courts and offered prayers for the victims’ families and for the recovery of the injured. He also prayed for the health of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, praising her commitment to public welfare.
In his address, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that Pakistan’s progress is anchored in strong institutions, national cohesion, and interfaith harmony. He reaffirmed that all religious minorities are equal citizens under the Constitution and enjoy complete religious freedom. He lauded the Christian community for its “significant and historic role” in the nation’s creation and development.
Condemning recent terrorism, the minister warned that Pakistan’s desire for peace must never be mistaken for weakness. “Anyone who casts an evil eye on Pakistan will be made an example. Our martyrs are our pride and their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he said.
Provincial Minister Ramesh Singh Arora reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to safeguarding minority rights and promoting religious freedom. He said that interfaith gatherings are essential for reinforcing national unity and social harmony.
The ceremony concluded with an employment-support initiative led by Isaac TV, featuring a raffle draw through which motorcycles and small financial-assistance loans were distributed to unemployed youth, aiming to encourage economic empowerment within the community.
